Elevator emergency phones, fire alarm panels and gate or door entry call boxes often still use copper lines. When the line is shut off, the elevator phone goes dead, the fire alarm can no longer reach its monitoring center, and inspections can fail.
What to do now
- Check your ZIP code to find the earliest shutoff date for each location.
- List every line still on copper: fire alarm, elevator, security, fax, POS and specialty lines.
- Get a replacement quote and set install dates ahead of each shutoff.
Don't wait for the disconnect notice.
Fire alarm, elevator, security, fax and POS lines can move to broadband, LTE or both before your date. A replacement quote shows what it takes for your building.
Informational only. Listings come from FCC Section 214 notices, carrier copper-retirement notices and state utility commission filings, current as of Oct 7, 2026. Dates are "on or after" and can change. Confirm service at your address with your phone company.
