Thousands of ZIP codes lose copper in the next 6 months. Is yours one of them?

AT&T, Verizon, Frontier and Lumen are shutting off landlines one central office at a time. Your fire alarm panel, elevator phones, fax machines, security and burglar alarms, and door access systems may still run on those copper lines. Enter your ZIP code to see your shutoff date.

Earliest shutoff

Don't wait for the disconnect notice.

Fire alarm, elevator, security, fax and POS lines can move to broadband, LTE or both before your date. A replacement quote shows what it takes for your building.

What's still on copper

Your phones moved on. Your building's equipment didn't.

Most offices replaced their desk phones years ago. But the equipment that keeps a building safe and running often still dials out over a copper line, and it stops working when that line is shut off.

Fire alarm panels

Send alarm and trouble signals to your monitoring center. Without a working line, alarms may never reach the dispatcher.

Elevator emergency phones

Connect trapped passengers to help. Code requires a working line in every car.

Fax machines

Still how many pharmacies, clinics, law offices and government agencies send orders and records.

Security and burglar alarms

Report break-ins, panic buttons and system status to your alarm company.

Door access and gate entry

Call boxes and entry systems that let visitors call a tenant or the front desk to be let in.

Other specialty lines

POS and credit card terminals, emergency call boxes, ATMs, utility and SCADA modems, and building automation.

What a replacement does

Today's POTS replacement solutions do more than copper ever did

Replacing a copper line no longer means replacing your equipment. Modern POTS replacement solutions plug into what you already have and add features copper never offered.

How it works

From shutoff date to replaced lines: what to expect

You don't need to understand the carrier filings. You need your lines working the day after the copper goes away.

  1. Check your ZIP

See which carrier filed, what is changing, and the earliest date your lines can be shut off.

  2. Get a site survey and quote

A specialist reviews every line in the building: fire alarm, elevator, security, fax, POS. The quote shows a flat monthly price per line.

  3. Install, test and monitor

Lines are installed before your date, tested with your alarm monitoring company, and monitored around the clock.

FAQ

Copper shutoff questions

When is my phone line being shut off?

Carriers file a date with the FCC or your state utility commission. Lines can be shut off on or after that date. Enter your ZIP above to see the earliest date on file for your area, then confirm with your carrier bill or notice.

Will my fire alarm stop working?

If your fire alarm panel sends signals over a copper phone line, it loses that connection when the line is disconnected. It needs a new communication path before the shutoff date to keep reaching your monitoring center.

What replaces a copper phone line?

A POTS replacement device connects to your existing alarm panel, elevator phone, fax or POS terminal and carries the signal over broadband with LTE backup, or over LTE alone. Your equipment keeps working as it does today.

How much does it cost?

You pay a flat monthly price per line. The quote depends on how many lines you have and what they connect to. Request a quote to get a price for your building within one business day.

My ZIP isn't on the list. Am I safe?

Not necessarily. Carriers file new notices every week and can give as little as 90 days' notice. Prices on remaining copper lines are also rising. Sign up for an alert to get an email if your ZIP is added.
